Whole Body Wellness

The most important step in achieving your health goals is to understand that the body works as a whole. Often when one is suffering from pain or dis-ease we look at that area for the cause. For example, many people are living with shoulder and arm pain and believe that they have a “bad shoulder,” when in fact the cause is pressure on nerves in the neck. At Flourishing Family Chiropractic we begin by first examining your spine for subluxations that are causing your nervous system to dysfunction. Once your spine is aligned the next step is to determine if the nerves are entrapped under other joint complexes, such as the shoulder girdle. These areas can also be examined and adjusted if necessary. This whole body view gives you the best opportunity to have the most balanced structure possible.

The way we balance your structure and take pressure of your nerves is through specific chiropractic adjustments.

Additional Wellness Improvements

In addition to restoring proper nervous system function and balance to your body through chiropractic adjustments we are also interested in helping you find ways to support and maintain that state. There are many options available to you as a patient to help guide you to a healthier life.

Nutrition

In order to have a healthy body it is important to make sure that you are giving your body the tools it needs to do its job each day. Every function of the body requires a different nutrient. These nutrients include, but are not limited to vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fats. It is essential to know how much of each nutrient you need, and which food you need to eat to provide them. It is also beneficial to understand which items you can limit to achieve and maintain a healthy weight to prevent illness such as diabetes. When you choose to add nutritional help to your care plan your personal needs are assessed and explained to you.

Supplementation

As a part of the nutrition consultation the doctor will also discuss if it is necessary for you to take certain vitamins and minerals that may be missing in your diet. Most traditional diets are lacking in certain areas and can be fortified with a quality supplement. There are also certain health conditions that may require you to have a higher amount of some nutrients. If it is determined that you could benefit from taking supplements the doctor will discuss your options for finding the best products. Dr. Shelley has chosen to work with a company known as Standard Process. Standard Process is a well known, and trusted supplier of whole food organic supplements. The advantage of the products coming from a whole food source is that it is more available for your body to absorb and use.

Exercise

One of the greatest ways to prevent spinal decay is through exercise. Movement encourages bone strengthening, flexibility, and spinal disc nourishing. It can also decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke by increasing the capability of the cardiovascular system. Just 30 minutes a day for an adult can be enough to deter Type II diabetes, and even lower your risk of cancer. It also helps mental health by preventing depression, promoting self-esteem, and favoring a better view of your own body image. The biggest challenge is finding a work out routine that fits your physical needs as a well as your schedule. Personal fitness advice can create such a plan and get you started on a new path of whole body well being.

Innate Intelligence

Every human has an inborn innate intelligence that is responsible for giving him or her the abilities they need to survive. This innate intelligence is responsible for the organization, maintenance, and healing of the body. It is evident in every day life happenings, such as when a cut turns to a scab without any instruction from an outside source. We recognize this intelligence as our sub-conscious mind that helps shape our lives and personalities. Its actions are manifested and carried out by the nervous system and it is our lasting purpose to remove interference and allow your body to heal. Empowering your body to heal from the inside out is the basis for your care.

The Adjustment

The purpose of the chiropractic adjustment is to remove spinal subluxations that were found during the physical exam. As explained previously, a subluxation is a misalignment in the spine that can put pressure on the nerve causing dysfunction. The doctor will determine the areas that are misaligned, and essentially “stuck” in the wrong position. This is achieved by the doctor applying a low force, high velocity push into your spine. Most people want to know if it hurts, and the answer is simple. Most people do not feel any discomfort during their adjustment because the goal is to be quick and gentle. The other most common question is about the “popping” sound that may happen during the adjustment. This sound is not a “cracking” of the bones, but is actually the movement of gas bubbles from in between the joints. The adjustment is gentle, pain free, and restorative to your nervous system function.
